OUR GOALS FOR YOU:

  1. You will master four new steps for each of the six dances, as well as how they can be put together in sequence
  2. You will demonstrate the steps at any speed necessary
  3. You will know where each dance originates, and it’s associated ethnicity
  4. You will be able to sing the main dunun and accompaniment parts
  5. You will learn about the MALIAN rhythmic family tree, and where each of these dances reside within that tree


CERTIFICATION:

STUDENTS who pass an exam at the end of the six weeks will be given a certificate of completion signed by MARIAM DIAKITE.


METHODS:

Course material will be taught via:

  1. LIVE ZOOM INSTRUCTION: There will be weekly live online instruction (via ZOOM) 1-2 times per week, maximum of 120 minutes.
  2. ON-DEMAND VIDEOS: You will have access to on-demand videos accessible through Mariam’s MALIAN DANCE FOR EVERY BODY website. The on-demand videos will be released dance by dance to prepare for the following weeks online live lesson.  In each dance lesson, there are an average of 15-20 videos. The on-demand videos will breakdown every single element in extensive detail for you to review.

  

LOGISTICS:

  • Live Instruction will occur via ZOOM. Links will be sent out and will be available within the MALIAN DANCE FOR EVERY BODY website.
  • Class times for LIVE INSTRUCTION will be coordinated among students. We will try to please as many as possible with the times. If you aren’t able to attend at that time, we will make the recordings available within the MALIAN DANCE FOR EVERY BODY website.
